Scopus Digital Platforms Broadcasting 14th Asian Games to Worldwide Audience
Scopus is Providing Korean Telecom with Broadcast over Telco Platforms for Live Transmission of Asia's Pre-Eminent Athletic Games

Tel Aviv, October 10, 2002 Scopus Network Technologies, (www.scopus.net) the supplier of digital platforms that successfully broadcast FIFA's 2002 World Cup Games from Korea, is proud to announce that its platforms are being used by Korea Telecom (KT) and Korean Broadcast Systems (KBS) to provide the digital transmission of the 14th Asian Games from Korea. The games, with over 9,000 participants from 43 countries, opened on September 29, 2002 and are scheduled to run through a festive closing ceremony on October 14, 2002.

KT is utilizing Scopus' digital broadcast platforms in a flexible arrangement as was first successfully demonstrated, on a larger scale, during the World Cup events, by Scopus and its Korean partner Dong-In. The Asian Games broadcast concept relies on 38 remote sites of which 29 sites transmit their broadcasts in real-time to one main broadcasting center in Busan, Korea. Each remote site is equipped with Scopus head-end equipment. The transmission in Korea is over Korea Telecom's DS3 high-speed telecom lines. At the broadcasting center, new bouquets are created and Scopus platforms are used to transmit ten channels internationally via satellite earth stations.

KT is using Scopus' modular broadcast platforms, similar to the ones used during the World Cup. These platforms perform 4:2:2 encoding profiles for Contribution applications. The equipment employed by KT at the stadiums and the broadcasting center include E-1000 Professional Encoders at a 4:2:2 profile, RTM-3800 Multiplexers, Scopus De-Multiplexers and IRD-2800 professional Integrated Receiver Decoders.

"Once again, Scopus is providing the broadcasting backbone for one of the world's most prestigious sporting events. Earlier this year we enabled the world to view FIFA's 2002 World Cup extravaganza, and now at the Asian Games our platforms are enabling Asia's athletes to show their compatriots and the rest of the world the best of their competitive fire and spirit," commented Mickey Mushinsky, Scopus' VP South East Asia Operations. "Scopus high quality and user friendly platforms allow our partner in Korea, Dong-In Satellite Communications, to successfully install, operate and provide local service for large scale and a complex system of this kind and re-assure Scopus' commitment to the success of this event."
