HSE24 chooses Harmonic for post-production storage and playout platform

German teleshopping specialist HSE24 has transitioned its multiple home shopping networks onto a Harmonic production storage and playout platform. A Harmonic Spectrum media server system provides continuous playout for four broadcast channels, and a Harmonic MediaGrid active storage system serves as post-production storage for recorded on-air content and supports an edit-in-place workflow in post-production.
Spectrum MediaCenter now available with SSD storage

Featuring integrated storage plus Spectrum MediaPort modularity and scalability, MediaCenter SSD is the first modular server system to offer a choice of SSD or hard-disk drive (HDD) storage. The system provides exceptional performance and reliability for broadcasters and remote playout facilities requiring from four to 12 channels in a single video server configuration
Harmonic ships two million QAMs

It took a decade for Harmonic ship its first million QAMs, and only a year to ship the second million. Harmonic’s edgeQAM technology powers premium services for more than an estimated 70 million cable subscribers worldwide, including video-on-demand (VOD), broadcast, switched digital video (SDV), modular cable modem termination system (M-CMTS) and cable IPTV services.
Harmonic announces new Outdoor Hub platform for cable access networks

Employing an optical node housing, the Outdoor Hub acts as an optical distribution point for downstream traffic and an aggregation point for upstream traffic, enabling cable operators to push their fiber networks far beyond the traditional hub/headend infrastructure. When combined with Harmonic’s SUPRALink 1550 nm transmission solution, the Outdoor Hub simplifies architecture and streamlines day-to-day operations, reducing capital and operating expenses.
ProStream 1000 with ACE updated with new audio features

The new audio processing capabilities include transcoding and downmix support for all common audio codecs as well as Level Magic™ automated audio level and loudness controls, developed by German audio specialists Jünger Audio. These enhancements enable service providers to deploy HD and SD services without the need for a discrete solution for audio processing, saving valuable rack space and capital expense.
New Harmonic ProMedia Capture Ingest Engine optimizes file-based production and multiscreen workflows

The ProMedia Capture video ingest engine enables real-time ingest of live and tape-based HD/SD video for file-based production and multiscreen workflows. ProMedia Capture offers a streamlined, simplified approach to complex content acquisition processes by capturing files at the highest resolution directly into the formats needed for production or for distribution to multiple screens.
SCOLA expands web and broadcast services with Harmonic

SCOLA, a non-profit global educational TV broadcaster based in the US, is deploying a full range of Harmonic’s IP-based stream processing, transcoding, media server, and storage solutions to power its satellite distribution and Internet service expansion. The new solution, which includes Electra® 8000 encoders, ProStream™ stream processors , Omneon Spectrum™ MediaCenter media servers and a file-based ProMedia™ Carbon automated transcoding farm, improve SCOLA’s broadcast video quality, decrease satellite bandwidth usage up to 50 percent, and triple the amount of VOD formats supported on SCOLA’s website.
US telco chooses ACE for new Mediaroom-based IPTV deployment

The Palmetto Rural Telephone Cooperative (PRTC) of Walterboro, S.C., chose the Harmonic ProStream™ 1000 with ACE™ high-density, real-time transcoder to power HD and SD video for its 290-channel IPTV service, based on the Microsoft Mediaroom platform. The platform’s industry-leading density enables PRTC to meet the growing demand for digital TV services.
