ESPN Star Sports (ESS), a joint venture between ESPN and STAR TV, operates 17 networks in five languages throughout Asia. ESS produces five local editions of SportsCenter and ESPNews and handles live broadcasts of both local and international sporting events. To meet the demands of covering high profile events such European Premier League matches in HD, ESS decided to add an HD production system based on its success with the existing “Homerun” system for SD production. This allowed them to realize a fast, efficient file-based HD workflow that supports real-time metadata tagging and enables editing before an event has completed.

Multimedia Polska S.A., with over 625,000 subscribers, is one of the leading service providers in Poland—and among the most innovative.  Trialed in September 2007 and commercially launched in October, the initial phase of its new VOD service powered by Harmonic allows 6350 simultaneous VOD streams delivering broadcast playout, VOD, and subscription VOD. The second phase, planned for the first half of 2008, offers time-shifted TV for ten channels, while the final phase will deliver nPVR for 30 channels.
